Dr Katie Seidler

Dr. Katie Seidler is a clinical and forensic psychologist with almost 30 years of experience in the specialist assessment and treatment of high risk offenders, including in the areas of terrorism and violent extremism. She maintains both a clinical and academic practice and has particular interest in risk conceptualisation and risk management and has worked in both criminal justice and community-based settings.

About Me

Dr. Katie Seidler is a clinical and forensic psychologist with a PhD in the area of the cultural motivations for interpersonally violent crime.  Since completing her PhD, Dr. Seidler’s primary area of academic interest has been in terrorism and violent extremism.  In addition to a PhD, Dr. Seidler has a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology and a Graduate Certificate in Terrorism and Security Studies. She is an Honorary Research Fellow with the Centre for Terrorism and Security Studies at Charles Sturt University and has actively contributed to a research partnership with the University of Queensland.  Dr. Seidler has almost 30 years experience as a psychologist, which has included treatment with both juvenile and adult offenders, with particular experience specialising in sexual and violent offenders and more recently, terrorist offenders.  She has particular expertise in risk assessment in violent extremism/terrorism and has provided expert advice in various jurisdictions in New South Wales, in addition to Queensland and for the Commonwealth. 

 

Further to this, Dr. Seidler is experienced in other areas of forensic psychology, as well as treatment of the mentally ill, child and family and community mental health clients.  Dr. Seidler also has experience in professional training, program development and academia.  She is a full member of both the Colleges of Clinical and Forensic Psychologists of the Australian Psychological Society, a clinical member of the Australia and New Zealand Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers and an accredited supervisor with the NSW Children’s Commission Child Sex Offender Counsellor Accreditation Scheme.  Furthermore, Dr. Seidler has membership of the Australia and New Zealand Association of Psychology, Psychiatry and the Law, the Society for Terrorism Research and the Asia Pacific Association of Threat Assessment.
